IT outsourcing for UAE SMEs: what to hand over and what to keep
Outsourcing IT lets a small or mid-sized business run like a larger one, without building a department. Here is how to do it without losing control.
The short answer
UAE SMEs usually outsource the running of IT — support, devices, Microsoft 365, network, security and backup — to a managed services provider for a fixed monthly fee, while keeping ownership of their accounts, data and decisions. The contract should set scope, first-response targets by priority, reporting and exit terms in writing.

What SMEs typically outsource
- Helpdesk and user support — one number, one portal, tracked tickets.
- Devices — setup, patching, protection and replacement planning.
- Microsoft 365 — licences, identity, email security and governance. See managed Microsoft 365.
- Network and firewall — internet, Wi-Fi, VPN and site connections.
- Security — endpoint, email and identity protection. See managed cybersecurity.
- Backup and recovery — monitored backups and tested restores. See managed backup and DR.
What to keep in-house
- Ownership of your Microsoft 365 tenant, domains, licences and data — in your organisation's name.
- Decisions on priorities, budget and risk.
- A named internal contact who approves changes.
Outsourcing the work should never mean outsourcing ownership.
What the contract should say
- Exact scope: users, devices, sites and services covered.
- First-response targets by priority, in business hours. Ours are 4 business hours for P1, 8 business hours for P2, 1 business day for P3 and 5 business days for P4.
- What is billable on top: hardware, licences, projects.
- Monthly reporting and a quarterly review.
- Exit terms: how documentation, passwords and admin access come back to you.

Common questions
Questions UAE businesses ask.
What IT can a UAE SME outsource?
Almost all of it: helpdesk and user support, device management, Microsoft 365 administration, network and firewall management, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, and IT projects. Most SMEs outsource the day-to-day running and keep decisions on priorities and budget in-house.
Is IT outsourcing safe for our data?
It can be safer than doing it alone, if the provider works with named accounts, multi-factor authentication, logged access and documented procedures, and if your organisation keeps ownership of its tenant, domains and licences. Ask how access is controlled and what happens to it if you part ways.
Do you cover Dubai and the other emirates?
Yes. Missan 365 works from its head office in Sharjah with teams in 3 countries, and covers Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates with remote support and onsite visits as agreed in the service agreement.
